Soviet Union, Moscow, 70s. Ranevskaya’s apartment near the Patriarch’s Ponds: People’s Artist of the USSR Faina Ranevskaya spends her days free from performances on her couch, rereading a volume of poems by her beloved Pushkin and receiving guests in a cozy living room. In the cycle of meetings with house guests and close friends, a meeting with a stranger, Annushka, unexpectedly turns upside down the actress’s usual and calm everyday life.

Faina Georgievna Ranevskaya was born on August 15, 1896 in Taganrog. She studied at the Mariinsky Women's Gymnasium. She was interested in theatre from age 14, attending classes at the private theatre studio of A. Jagiello (A. N. Govberg), graduating in 1914.
In 1915, she left for Moscow. She lived in a room on Bolshaya Nikitskaya. During these years, I met M. Tsvetaeva, O. Mandelstam, V. Mayakovsky, and V. Kachalov for the first time. Judging by her memoirs, she was in love with Kachalov and admired his acting.
She worked for more than a quarter of a century at the Mossovet Theater, on the stage of which she performed her most famous theatrical roles: Mrs. Savage (“The Strange Mrs. Savage”) and Lucy Cooper (“Next Silence”).
A 60-year acting career resulted in dozens of roles on stage and about thirty in films.
