Premiere of the film "Nabokov, the Good Russian" and the new volume "Namedni 2021–2025".
Vladimir Nabokov, the last luminary of Russian literature and a classic of global modernism, left his native Petrograd in 1917, and his entire career was spent in exile. But he remained a staunch Russian patriot, a follower of the traditions of Pushkin and Tolstoy, and considered the Soviet regime and the "socialist realist" literature it spawned a historical misunderstanding that would sooner or later end.
This is the most important lesson of the first wave of Russian emigration, which the current, fifth wave, can learn from Nabokov’s fate: confidence in one’s own rightness despite the regime that rules in the homeland and those compatriots who support it.
Approximate duration: 90 minutes without intermission.
